Overview
Description[]
- Nasty Surprise is a first era direct damage Shadow spell. In exchange for sacrificing a unit, it exchanges that units current health into damage and a small and medium knockback.
A fully upgraded Dreadcharger at 700 HP is the toughest Shadow creature at tier 1, even without stored lifepoints, and with Swift to get into position faster it is the target of choice for Nasty Surprise at tier 1.
- It can cause friendly-fire; other units should be kept out of harm's way. If there are any enemy units left to fight afterwards, other units can be summoned or rallied to the fight after the blast. Both the caster and the defender must consider the implications of buildings in the area of effect of the blast, and the consequent distribution of a portion of the damage to such buildings.
Underkill and overkill considerations must be balanced. Because of the 33% damage cap per unit, any less than a group of five units will do more damage than there is HP to be reduced, or overkill. As the number of units decreases, there is a decreased threat of underkill: leaving units alive to potentially regenerate their health.
Abilities[]
Foul Play
- Turns an own unit into a living bomb that explodes immediately dealing 150% of its current life points as damage to hostile and friendly units within a 25m radius, up to 33% per target and 3000 in total. Knocks back small and medium units. Reusable every 5 seconds.
Uses
Roles[]
- Can make any own unit deal high damage in an instant.
Counter For[]
Countered By[]
Combos[]
- Cards with high hp/power ratio.
- Knight of Chaos (Shadow x2 T2 70/900), Lost Reaver (Shadow Frost T2 120/1650), Unstable Demon (Shadow T3 100/1800, obvious potential with obvious difficulties) Silverwind Lancers (Frost T3 80/1680), Boom Brothers (Fire T4 100 cost and 2000 HP for exactly maximum 3000 NS damage) etc.
- Corpse Explosion (played after NS)
- Soulshatter (Nasty Surprise should help create some corpses for Soulshatter; if possible, NS' target unit can rush in after the initial Soulshatter damage and before the corpse explosion effect wears off, so that NS can kill targets with the Soulshatter curse on them, adding their HP to the final explosion)
Trivia[]
- Nasty Surprise damage cap is 3000
